Duel At Deadmans Creek

"A man will appear in the Westport District Court this morning on firearms charges following an Armed Offenders callout near the town yesterday.

Police say an argument over whitebait is believed to have sparked the incident, where several shots were reported to have been fired close to whitebaiters at Deadman's Creek, north of Westport.

Police from Nelson and Greymouth surrounded a nearby house and after some negotiating a man gave himself up peacefully."
